You are making an extremely good effort to "get it".
I get frustrated with parents (unlike you) who come into my store and try to purchase some "lifetime" instrument (as if it was a grave marker, or something) for their child.
They don't understand that (among other points):
- I have some instruments for sale that their children will likely never be able to appreciate.
- If their children DO develop their abilities enough to appreciate those instruments, the "superhorn" that they choose now just might not be the one that they later "appreciate".
