Sure the bottom of the bus is closer to the bumps in the road. BUT the entire bus is on a stiff frame, separated from these annoying bumps by springs and shocks. So, the entire structure should receive about the same amount of bumpiness. The only exception would be to set the tuba on a pillow on a seat . . . .

Now if the bottom of the bus scrapes a big speed bump, all bets are off!

More-or-less seriously, I'd think the train would be a little smoother, but I wouldn't be afraid of either approach. Airport baggage handlers terrify me!
