I've a Holton bass trumpet. I don't wag it around and hold it in awe, but it plays quite OK for me...really.

btw, What (really) is the difference between a bass trumpet and a King "flugabone" or Dynasty "marching trombone" (meant to be "rhetorical)? Perhaps, though, the "generic" flugabone is just a hair larger (to its advantage, IMO) than one's concept of a bass trumpet. On a Wagner concert that I recall, the bass trumpeter (yeah, right - like I'm sure that he majored in "bass trumpet" at the Paris Conservatoire) used a flugabone and blew the walls down (played magnificently).
