John, I have an old (1952) Conn euph in satin silver. The finish looks a little finer grained than the more modern satin, but I use Wright's Silver polish. It comes in a jar and is a soft paste consistancy. They recommend a cloth, wet with very warm water(it softens the paste). I recomend the softest cloth you can find. I have no problem with residue or with removing the satin look. I don't rub hard (you don't have to). The polish must have a tarnish inhibitor in it, as I only have to polish twice a year. I am not a repair type, as you requested, but it works for me. Jim
