I think you misunderstood the previous poster, he just explained the relation between major and minor and where the half steps are at minor scale...

For example:
C major, no accidentals, half steps 3-4 and 7-8.

For the relative minor scale, you just have to go a sixth up (or third down):
A minor, no accientals, half steps 2-3 and 5-6.

And what there else should be mentioned: When the melodic scale is played down, the additional sharps at 7, 8 are cancelled again.

Donīt want to instruct you, but maybe useful for the original poster.
