In equal temperament G# and Ab are the same note. However if G# is tuned closer to E then it will be more out of tune as Ab played with C and vise versa.
Some wind instruments finger G#/Ab the same. Some wind instruments have alternate fingerings which allows them more ways to play notes in tune.
