I started on a CC tuba in my first year in Sr. HS. My Director asked me to switch from percussion. The school had purchased a concert tuba that was always sharp when played, my older brother was a Music Education major at USC (Southern Cal) and he asked Tommy Johnson to check the horn. OOPS, it was a CC.Tommy then wrote out an extended fingering chart (4 valve) and sent it home to me with the horn. A few years later, I auditioned at USC as a Music Major on the same horn, and Tommy Johnson was impressed that I knew how to play a CC tuba.Advantages, I was already used to switching back and forth from BBb and CC (marching band), F tuba and Eb "fingers" seemed to come easier to me then some of the other tuba players, but that might not be due to already knowing two sets of "fingers".Disadvantages I was very lucky that USC had a school CC horn to use, not every Music Department will have one.Good Luck, David H
