This my understanding:
Since a trombone is around 12 ft., that would make a BBb tuba 24 ft., being an octave lower. That being said, for every 1/2 step change in the pitch of the instrument, add or subtract 6% of the original length. That would make a CC 12%, or 2.88 ft. shorter than a BBb. So, adding all 3 valves, or 36%, makes for a grand total of 32.64 ft. Your assignment for tomorrow is to figure out the lengths for all of the valve combinations of all 3,4,5,6 valve tubas in all keys. Next week we'll do euphs followed by french horns.
