No matter how great one's job is, certain aspects of ANY job "get old" after a decade or two.

Cueing in on the word "permanent", I would choose an orchestra job because, quite frankly, it is less work due to not being involved in all of the pieces. This would offer just a bit more time to pursue "life", and quite frankly, less time blowing one's brains out on continuous (nearly rest-free) band "bass" parts. Also, thirty very fine fiddle players are just a bit more interesting to listen to (due to the potential for expression, and the shimmering sound) than thirty very fine clarinetists or even fifteen very fine cornetists.
