The St. Petes that I have played have been decent sounding and playing instruments, although intonation was suspect in a few areas. I didn't spend enough time with them to really get a handle on the extent of any intonation issues. My issue with them is not how they play, but the mechanics. The valves were sluggish and noisy, even on relatively new horns. The valve linkage looked flimsy. I have heard first hand accounts of poorly soldered joints and braces coming apart and the linkage, even those added by that store in NC, falling apart after a few years of steady playing. I agree with Charlie's point that there are better made tubas that play as well or better for about the same price, and therefore why buy one?
