I do use a pillow to raise the mouthpiece to a comfortable level. It provides a little support, but in no way does it eliminate the need to hold the instrument more firmly. If you want to appreciate the magnitude of my problem, place your left hand in your pants pocket, then try to play your horn with the horn just sitting in your lap. Some may be able to manage that without the instrument slipping; it's awkward for me.I really can't use my left hand to grasp the instrument. When I had a 3-valve instrument, it was light enough to manage using the pillow, but my new horn is heavier, and the pillow isn't enough. I do thank the posters who've replied sincerely for their suggestions.
