I have no experience with the 1970's "econo/student" Miraphones you refer to, and I hope Charlie will respond to that piece. I bought my 182 new 2 years ago. It replaced (in primary usage, not in my heart) an Alex 164 bought new in 1957. I know what a tank is, and while I wouldn't want to see what happens to the 182 if it collides with the Alex, I don't dispute Charlie's statement that the 182 is built like a tank. It is a very solid, relatively heavy instrument. The bracing, trim and weight are pretty clear signs to me that "econo," "student" and, in particular, "cr**" are not fair descriptive terms of the 182. I suggest that you try one.
