Watch out for united, they are the worst. Had a significant dent in my horn when the tuba was thrown onto the loading ramp at Oakland International a few years ago, they missed the loading ramp (as I watched from my seat)and the case hit the side of the ramp, so it bounced through the case and dented the back of the horn. Thank god for Dick Akright, he fixed it up well. The people at United were rude, uncaring and just plain DO NOT GIVE A DAMN!

My insurance company tried to pursue, but federal law makes them not responsible, even in cases of gross negligence. They could literally take your horn out, stomp on it and not be heald liable!

Get a good case, and pack the horn in with padding like foam or something, put fragile all over it, that is airport lingo for "please toss and Stomp!"

The trip home was uneventful!

Good luck!

One last thing, I was a premier level in the mileage plus frequent flyer at the time, they truely do not give a damn!
