I didn't dent any horn lately, but have been cleaning out the garage. I came across a couple of old Bell Biker helmets (remember those?) and wondered if the "helmet" technology could be applied. If I were to attach something like this, I'd probably just solder a couple of threaded spuds to the bottom bow and line the "helmet" with some sort of elastomer to get a good rattle-free fit and use screws to attach the guard.
Maybe the pros would object to something like this, but boy, I'll betcha that every HS band director would love to see something like this. A tuba dropped a little too hard on the bottom bow is an awful repair to do.
Hey, if we can have carbon-fiber bells, why not kevlar bottom bows?
