It's hard to get a good recording in a studio. The dead room makes the tuba sound like a can, the engineers generally like to stuff the mic down the bell, and moreover they have little experience recording tubas. You might find a sav-vy guy with a good reputation who makes money recording high school bands and selling c.d.'s to the kids. He might know of a good (free?) acoustical venue to make your recording, and hopefully he'll be smart about mic placement, settings, filters, etc.

If you have a good acoustical venue, a couple of great mics, a very fine DAT machine, and an excellent (portable) engineer, the recording will be a very fine representation of your performance.

- the best to you
