I am not a professional musician but I have learned that mouthpieces do make a significant difference... not only from one to the other, but from one horn to the other. Instead of spending a lot of money trying out one, I have purchased a dozen or so used mouthpieces ranging from stock Bach ones to old 'no name original equipment' ones that came on school horns. I also have seven different horns that I use depending on the gig. One mouthpiece does not work well on all of them. However, if I had to pick one or two, it would be the Helleberg style Conn or Schilke mouthpieces. The Schilke is a little heavier and the Conn is a little less comfortable because the rim is slightly sharper. This is only an opinion. You and your horn will have to decide. Anyway, I would recommend you try several first. Borrow 'em or buy 'em cheap.
