Finding a playable tuba for ten bucks is going to take a great deal of patience. If you are in a fairly large metropolitan area you might try to buy one for scrap from the school system. Otherwise, you are going to spend a minimum of $300-400 for anything worth having. Just a thought... if you can play an Eb horn, you might want to consider an Eb sousa as they are usually pretty cheap. I've got a very nice Reynolds Eb sousa that would make a real nice pep band horn if you are interested. Another thing to consider... freight cross country is going to add another $50-100 to whatever you buy.
