I was offered the opportunity to purchase one of these quite a few years ago...string linkage, etc...I don't think that a mouthpipe would make much difference in the sound. Perhaps a very shallow cup mouthpiece (C4, etc.) might make a tiny difference.
Are you in Carolina? I think the guy who bought the one that I passed up lived there and played in the orchestra.
