Actually, from my experience, i have to agree with you assessment. The two main horns ive used recently, a mirafone 186 and yamaha 641, each have their differences. The mirafone playes better low, high, and in between, and has a smaller bore and leadpipe. The yamaha plays bad low and high, and ok in between, as long as you play soft. It has a big bore and a fat leadpipe. It also costs more.
I like the cheaper, smaller horn and get more out of it.
