Mr. Shultz, I have had similar problems with F horns. It just sounds stuffy right? Well I was using a regular helleburg on my horn. I started using a Miraphone Rose Model mouthpiece and getting used to the horn and the problem became less notable.

I have a recording of Jake playing The Vaughn Williams Tuba COncerto, and you can even tell a change of the sound on these notes (even though it is virtually noticable this guy was a hoss!). I wouldn't sell the horn. Just keep playing it. If you still have a problem in a week or two then think about selling the horn. I hope this helped.
