I have quite a bunch of mps. One is a heavy weight "Mel Culbertson" type with that unusual outside concave shape (rim and lower external cup dia. almost identical). It weighs 33% more than a similar sized standard one.
Unfortunately, I could not find a significant difference in sound on various tubas that I tried, but maybe this is just my subjective evaluation only. Anyway, not finding any improvement was a bit disappointing for me.
