That old hog's been there for years. I'm pretty sure they had
it under a pile of junk speakers, guitars, and contabass clarinet
parts when I was working in their repair shop in '76-7. I think
it has string action valves and is currently unplayable - the
valves all rattle around and wobble and it must have a lot of
leaks. I haven't checked it out in any detail, but last year a very
small 10 yr old student's mother rented it for him. Poor kid could
barely hold the thing up, and could not get a sound out of it beyond
a kind of feeble groan. I tried it and it felt like playing a hose;
probably full of dead rats. It may be resurrectable, but at what cost?
Definitely NOT an old man's tuba - I'm approaching that exalted
state, and found it extremely difficult to handle/carry/hold.
