You could have the best of both worlds with the Meinl Weston's (Getzen) horns from the '70s. I remember having a five rotary valve CC that the fifth valve had a dual configuration with two slides. Configured with the full length of tubing (both slides) it was the 2-3 combination. If you only used one of the slides (shorter course) you had a flat 1 combination. It was a great horn but it weighed a ton. I forgot the model number.
