The NEA is just another example (though very very large and having a critical and detrimental impact on many of our lives) of a political force taking advantage of its non-politically-savvy clientelle. The carrot that the NEA dangles (in order to claim their numbers and to fund their lobbyists) is group insurance. My guess would be that well less than half of those who buy NEA insurance subscribe to NEA's "principles"...the same as with other labor unions.
