One of the main points of my post was that if I had observed others - besides the seller - bidding against me, I knew that $400 was fair and might have bid even higher (keeping in mind: earlier-than-1990 prices, as this occurred in the late 1980's).
The point of the post was (while affirming my belief that there isn't anything "wrong" with shill-ing - in my opinion) that if someone wants to stick out their neck and shill, they risk getting their head cut off.
