after talking with some airline reps it sounds asthough they will check oversized musical instruments w/o charge. I aked her about a tuba in a flight case with a hypothetical weight of 100 lbs. She said there is a special type of system where you ceck in at least 3 hours early and if its an instrument it won't cost extra. There is however no gaurentee it arrives on you flight but rather somethime durinbg that day.
