The 2155 is a GREAT all around tuba. All around is one that is versatile enough to use in most situations (Band/solo/quintet/orchestra/etc.). For an example of horns that may not be quite as versatile consider the following:

6/4 Chicago York Tuba, Meinl-Weston 2165, or other B.A.T. - great for big orchestra, but a bit overpowering for a brass quintet or other small ensemble application.

My little tiny Meinl-Weston 182 F tuba, Yamaha 621, or other T.A.T. (tiny ass tuba) - great for solos and small ensembles, but get lost in a large orchestra.

A 2155 or another largish 4/4 tuba would a great all around tuba because it can handle all different kinds of situations very well.
