I don't think there has ever been a "Use internal speaker for playback" on the PC versions--just a choice of installed devices. Macs have a codec attached to the internal speaker, so this choice makes sense. A PC's internal speaker is just a bit banger attached to a timer/counter, so that choice would make no sense.
