The Fafner is absolutely wonderful. Orchestral passages are rich and smooth and the nimble agility area has been terrific--my colleagues agree. The clarity of sound and wonderful breadth of sound is the thing. It has that CC tuba clarity and you have to realize that this is the norm in Germany, Three current job openings (Deutsch Symphonie Orch--Berlin, Gewandhaus Orch---Leipzig and the Radio Orch in Saarbrucken) list BBb tuba as part of the requirement (that plus Bass tuba [F or Eb]) and many players over there are using either the large Rudy or the Fafner.
