Eventually, an applicant will be expected to play live in front of those who evaluated the recording. Doctoring tapes could get an applicant in front of a committee, but for what? to waste time, transportation money, etc.?
I think it's probably fair to record each absolutely separate "piece" individually and put them together on one tape or c.d., but splicing of individual pieces, again, wastes the time of the applicant and evaluators.
