Great answer!! I did the same thing, except it was a Yamaha Eb. John Olah was my teacher at the time and enjoyed playing his Eb. I could afford $1300 for a used Yamaha 321 Eb, but not $3000 for a used CC (1984 prices).
I was doing more quintet playing and gigging (is that a word?), so a smaller horn fit better than the school's Rudy 4/4 CC. Hindsight, I should of saved my pennies and got a CC then a small horn. I didn't buy my CC until 2001. I just purchased a F and should get it by next week.
Get a good CC and make the school buy a F.
