Ok, these two topics aren't necessarily related to one another, but they are both loosely related to the tuba world, and I wanted to just put up one post.
Anyway, I was watching the news the other night and learned the Tulsa Philharmonic (the only full time professional orchestra in Oklahoma) has canceled the rest of their season due to being $1,000,000 in the red. The mayor of Tulsa is putting together a task force to try to save the orchestra.
I was at the OMEA convention earlier today and I sought out the Boosey and Hawkes rep to ask him about the sale of the musical instrument manufacturing portion of the company. From what he told me, that part of the company has indeed been sold to a consortium of European investors and soon as all the signatures are done, they will be ramping up business. That sounds like good news to me.
