Everyone has air. Not everyone plays well. A beginning brass player uses air. If there is no strength and control, that air produces little in the way of finesse, volume, range, control, velocity, or technique. Building strength and flexibility (which is only possible with air) is how to extend range, finesse, and gives one the ability to make music, more technique.

Think of the tuba player as a car and driver. Air is the fuel. With gas, the car will not run. But without a driver in control, the car will go nowhere. All you have to do to fill up is breathe. There must be something else involved with great technique and great musicianship.

I have a six liter capacity. Don't tell me all I need is air. I have air. I play better when my chops are supple and strong. EMBOUCHURE STRENGTH!
