To quote Bobby Mcferin: DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!

Your outset on the tuba has been very different from that of most other beginners on that instrument:

You can read music. You have been accustomed to, at some level at least, to play with your thoughts on the music, not on the instrument. Due to personal relations you had the sound of the tuba in your ears, before you ever tried your first not on the instrument.

What has happened to you is, that you have involved a lot of will into the process of making the tuba say something reasonable sound/music.

If one wants to progress fast, one involves tensions. That was the initial stage of your relationship with the tuba, during which you could not get the low notes.

Now you have reached a stage of less tension and the low range starts to work.

What you have to realise, is that the regaining of the upper notes does not go over the road of tension, but over the training of muscle strength and even more important: muscle control.

This process takes time and patience, but can be speeded by the involvement of proper exercises. You will manage over time. Names as Velvet and Deana would point to role models, that have managed pretty well.
