Having heard it, I can understand why the instrument is now extinct :)

But still, a fine performance. His first piece was in a middle-eastern type mode, ya know, akin to melodic minor. The ophicleide really leant itself to this, as the sound was very similar to that double reedy sound--think of those shawm type instruments--a la snake charmer. Sorry I cant explain any better than that...

Second piece was Neal Corwell's "Aboriginal Voices" with tape. I liked the first piece better (for the ophicleide). I can see he was going for a dijeridoo (i KNOW that is spelled wrong :) type sound, but I was missing the dynamic contrast that the instrument cant handle...

Overall, enjoyable, something fun and different, but I wouldnt want to hear one every day :)
