Co-op Press invites musicians and musical organizations to apply for its Commission Assistance Grant. The deadline for receipt of applications for the next cycle is March 14, 2003.

The purposes of the grant are to encourage performers at all levels of development (elementary performing ensemble through professional) to experience the value of working closely with a composer of Mainstream Literary Music, to cultivate audiences for Mainstream Literary Music by having the composer speak about the music at the concert and in seminars, to encourage composer/performer interaction by having the composer and performer work closely during the creation and rehearsal process, and to foster the growth of Mainstream Literary Music. Mainstream Literary Music is art music that is based on musical traditions established prior to the mid-20th century. One grant each cycle is being set aside for student musicians (grade school through college soloists or small ensembles) in order to foster their interest in Mainstream Literary Music. The grant supports the commissioning of composer, Sy Brandon, and covers the cost of the commission fee, the copying and reproduction of parts, and the composer residency. Applicants must be individuals or organizations residing in the United States or Canada.
