Considering the difficulty of working with hand-laid fiberglass, and the cost of buying the supplies for just one project, one might hire someone to do it for him--someone who has already worked out all the difficulties. Walt Johnson comes to mind. Unless laying up fiberglass is a hobby in its own right, the cost of a Walt Johnson case doesn't seem very expensive if a fiberglass flight case is the only thing that will do.
But don't think that fiberglass is lightweight--it is far denser than wood.
