There is hope!!!!!
I am Jim Klages. I was the cornet soloist with the President's Own" US Marine Band, when I came down with M.S and was medically retired. I had been dealing with the downward spiral of the disease since 1990, and unable to play piano or write legibly since.

I no longer have any symptoms of the disease, and several friends with MS have also been helped -every one who looked into this.
My story is told in the letter that follows.

I had sensitivity to heat, numbness and burning in all my extremities, memory, speech, and walking problems. I had seen the best neurologists in the world - between Bethesda and the nation MS society. I fell an average of once a day and unknown to me, my students would follow me to catch my horn when I fell.

Dr. Dennis Doan offered to trade trumpet lessons for sessions with him He is a Gonstead Chiropractor. I thought he was a quack. He is not. He has changed my life, and I have never felt healthier in my life.

From a letter to Dr. Doan
Dr. Doan,
I am forwarding a letter to you I received from Charles Gorham - cofounder of ITG and the person who put Monette on the map. It includes a letter I sent to him and Dave Monette. It will perhaps be of interest.

From a letter from me to Charles Gorham.

Hello Jim,
E… and I just read your great news! People are wonderful at times. The world needs to know and believe as all the religions may depend on people and then there are politicians?? Your chiropractor seems to be one of these great contributors. Bravo for him and we are both happy for you. Important to you. I wish that S… D… could also partake of his wisdom. Maybe in the future. S… is practically an invalid now. I will forward your letter to S… if you don't mind. D…'s e-mail address: B…(AT)….com Good to hear about your tour and all the home projects. Hope your wife and daughter are all well and happy.
I had considered asking you if you had ever heard about a scientist who has recommended "calcium" taken in an Okinawa formula which contains lots of coral/microbs as a major additive to healthy brain tissue, etc. he claims that this is far and large the most important step to take in curing many diseases. (?) Young Carlos sounds as though he is one of the best reasons to be a trumpet/cornet teacher. Having had this opportunity in my life, I relate to him very easily. I'd like to hear him play one of these days.
We are leaving for Canada on Friday for a "vacation" of fishing and probably the usual maintenance projects. I don't mind them if the bugs are not around. The country is really beautiful and the wildlife is mainly interesting and sometimes beautiful to hear (The loons always sing symphonies of many melodies.)

Again, your news is really great and we look forward to your continued improvement(s)!

Dear Mr. D…,
I heard of you in correspondence with Mr. G…. I was the Cornet Soloist
with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C.
until; 1990 when I had my first bout of Multiple Sclerosis and was
eventually medically retired. I had all the usual medical tests including
spinal tap and MRI. (The image from the MRI distressed me- the white matter
looked like cauliflower.)Over the following years, I had 2-4 exacerbations
of the disease. I have not been able to ply piano or work in the heat
without immediate ill results. A month ago, I collapsed while cutting the
grass and could not get up for five minutes.

Neurologist have me on Amantadine, Neurotin, and Paxil to deal with fatigue
and pain. I have resisted using the suggested injections of form of
interferon because of the various trade-offs with them. I know I have been
fortunate with the course of the disease- but it has been significant- a
different home, state, career, stress to my family. You know about all this
type of thing I imagine. I constructed a glove with Velcro straps to help
hold my trumpet for playing in the orchestra.

Last month I received a call from Dr. Dennis Doan. (http://drdoan.com/) He
was an armature trumpet player who had seen me mentioned on the Monette web
page. He wanted to talk about mouthpieces and see my Monette cornet. He
turned out to be a fair trumpet player who was trying various Monette
mouthpieces. Dr. Doan joined the UCO summer band to play in a section with
He offered to swap trumpet lessons for chiropractic sessions.

I was hesitant- I have had friend suggest questionable remedies over the
years- I have told to become a vegetarian, stop using deodorant, get
acupuncture, take aloe Vera, ... My response is always thanks for your
concern, and go on trying to live a reasonable balanced life. When I went
to see Dr. Doan, I expected nothing. I was more than skeptical. I went out
of politeness to a fellow trumpeter.

Dr. Doan told me he was a Gonstead Chiropractor. This meant nothing to me.
He said it was more rigorous than other branches of chiropractic. My
thoughts were the same someone who said their branch of voodoo is more
scientific, but I was nice to him. I thought at most I would get a back rub.
Though I have never have had pain in my back- I did has severe pain in my
feet from the M.S. that has lasted for five years or so. Sometimes
unbearable.

After a several hour interview about my medical record, to took temperature
measurement of my spine with an interesting instrument. He then felt and
marked with a pen the vertebrate. Then he had me kneel over a special
kneeling chair in his office and told me to relax everything. After some
feeling the bones of the spine with his hand - he pushed on one- and the
pain in my feet was gone, For the first time in five years. It has not come
back- though their is a memory of the pain sometimes when I am tired.

He has told me to come back once a week for the past several. After the
second week my hands started improving. I have been unable to play the piano
for years- now I am able to start relearning it. Last week my sensitivity to
heat has started to improve. I have cut the grass twice in the hot Oklahoma
weather and felt refreshed when I was done rather than paralyzed as has been
the case in recent years.

I continue to improve. This is the first hope for the MS I have ever had. It
actually claims to treat the causes of the disease rather than the symptoms.
I was skeptical but had nothing to lose. I had never heard of Gonstead
Chiropractic helping M. S.. I know every case is different. Each case moves
up and down (mainly down) making some things seem to help when they don't-
but perhaps this works. It certainly doesn't hurt.

I wish you well.

Sincerely,

Jim.
