In my brief experience with two different 2xJ horns, I would expect that the horn/mouthpiece is not your problem. Unless there is a specific problem with that particular horn, those notes should speak well. You say you have worked on the issue extensively yourself. My suggestion (FWIW) is to get a couple of lessons with a pro player or good teacher. If you're having problems producing notes in what should be the 'cash register' for a 20J, you are probably doing something wrong with your air or your embouchure. A good teacher should spot it quickly and give you ways to correct the problem.
