Juries at my college music department required 2 octaves of brass players, eighth-notes at 1/4=120 mm, major and all minors, your scales came up at random by drawing 3x5 cards out of a hat, giving you (only) two or three to play. This forced preparation of all (yeah the melodics and stuff too) but saved the jury the joy of hearing ALL those scales by all their students.
