Not all nonprofit organizations necessarily qualify to receive deductible contributions. The nonprofit organization must be operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes to qualify. And, the foundation must be approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt organization eligible to receive deductible contributions. If it is, unreimbursed expenses incurred while performing qualified volunteer work for the organization would be deductible on Schedule A.

The IRS publishes lists of approved charities, "IRS PUBLICATION 78, CUMULATIVE LIST OF ORGANIZATIONS", but a call to the Foundation's offices might be quicker to determine its tax status.
