Hi Marty, I agree. It is much easier for me to hold out a phrase on the tuba than the bass bone (comparing the same phrase of course.) It is easier to get the big resonance of the tuba with less air. I think the bone has a more "linear" air approach and the tuba is a more "wider air (?)" approach. Does that make any sense? Ideally they both should be the same, but for me they are not. Also the difference in tone quality and idiomatic use could be a reason. the trombone tends to have a more "cutting" tone where the tuba is a broader enveloping sound.
