The Miraphone 186 is about .770" bore. I once owned a Cazzani-Rampone 0.900 bore BBb--the rotors were so heavy it'd make your hands hurt after playing awhile. As the bore gets larger, the horn gets heavier and the valves get bigger; if you're playing a piston-valved horn, the stroke of the valve gets longer.

In comparison, the big Yorks and Holtons have a bore of 0.750"; the big Martin BBb is only 0.720" and the big Conn 20K sousaphone is only 0.734". So, in that light, the Miraphone 186 has a huge bore compared to the big Yorks.

Bottom line for me is that an exact relationship of bore to playing characteristics is extremely difficult to define.
