If you buy something used to start with you may not even have to part with your violin fi you didn't want to. If you do, you might try that auction site as trade in values can be low sometimes compared to actual worth. The store has to make a buck too.

Whatever you get, if it's not from a music store with a technician or someone who plays the tuba regularly, be weary and even see if someone that knows how to play well can check out the horn for you. If you get a great "deal" take it to a shop for a check up just to make sure it doesn't need a cleaning or have leaky valves.

That's just my .02 worth. Take it for what it's worth.
