Many years ago a lawyer your age asked me to teach him to play the tuba. He had no musical background but loved dixieland and wanted to play. His upper lip was so small I thought he would never get it past the rim of a regular tuba mouthpiece. I lent him an old tuba and a narrow-rim mouthpiece and showed him some scales, and he had a ball with it, playing in an lawyers's dixieland band for many years.
Get yourself any tuba that is playable and have some fun. You can always re-sell an old tuba when you find a better one. My first choice for you would be a BBb 3-piston Olds. There are two of them available now at Dillon's although you can sometimes find lower prices elsewhere.
