A great spot for Trad Jazz is Fritzel's, which I believe is on Bourbon Street just behind the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Ryan Burrage leads a group there and I had the pleasure of sitting in on two nights there. Not on tuba-(Fed Ex was late) but on drums!
Preservation Hall is the ultimate tourist trap-they don't even really play traditional New Orleans Jazz anymore anyway.
