Hi Roger, I e-mailed you awhile back about the Allora 186. I tested it at NAMM and found it to be similar to the Miraphone 186 which I've also played. I've also tested all their other models (copies of 191, Sanders Imperial, etc.). I believe the general sweeping statements of the past (and current) on Chinese made = poor quality is outdated. Each company (or instrument) should stand on it's own. The perpetual perceptions (true or false) of these "poor quality" instruments will keep many from buying a decent horn for a low price - I'd rather have one of these tubas new than the junk I've been seeing over that "auction site" for used/beat up tubas going for the same price.
