Well, there are two ways I can listen to music: as a composer, in which case I'm trying to determine the structure and "how the composer did it." This is an intellectual exercise. The second way is with my heart, and is the strongly preferred way. If a combination of sounds doesn't give me any avenue to listen with my heart, it is not, in my definition, music. It is noise; it may be structured noise that someone can listen to with his left brain, but we have left the realm of music.
