I tried the Jupiter tubas at the NAMM show last weekend. The best one, I thought, was their 4 rotor 3/4 tuba, though the 3 piston 3/4 and 4 piston 4/4 were alright and the 4 piston 3/4 was not so great.
If you're going to play in a rock band, get a nice used brass sousaphone! A guy sitting in a chair playing an upright tuba would look stupid in a rock band. I use a 3 valve medium size sousa with amplification. The best thing is you can always sell it for what you paid, unlike buying a cheap tuba new. Some sousas have 4 valves, but if you want lower notes, its easier to use an octave pedal.
