I had the same issues a few years back and happenned to get the opportunity to spend a little time with Scott Watson at the University of Kansas. The simple generalized solutuon was to pull the corners way, way down for the low, low notes. It felt extreme at first but it did the trick and made low attacks more consistant. Also.......don't sweat it. You're IN THE BAND. You are only trying out for chair placement. By the way, the E ain't a pedal. Pedals begin on the horn's fundamental, which is the CC on your horn (3 octaves below middle C on the piano), if my octave notation serves me correctly.
